The goal is to develop the Equestrian Cloud Rider Monitoring System within 2 years. With this system the coach, rider and spectators can immediately get (live) reliable insights from data, based on a combination of innovative technologies live on an LED screen. All components are also separately marketable products that as a whole give a unique insight into rider-horse performance. The whole merges into a Cloud Rider Monitoring System that provides insight into rein force, stirrup force, rider position, gait analysis and other movements of the horse.

Within equestrian sports there is a need for high tech tools with which it is possible to make a good analysis of horse and rider. This is evident from conversations with the KNHS, top coaches and various sources such as trade journals, strategy of the international federation, etc. The primary aim is to develop innovative technologies for automated analyses of horses and riders during training / lessons and later competitions. Objective analysis of the movements of horses in practice has not been possible to date. Analyzes continue to be done through subjective observations of vets, farriers, trainers, owners, buyers, judges, etc. where the human eye is the limiting factor. We strive for a system that enables objective analysis with video and small sensors, equipped with wireless data communication. In addition, a complete analysis product is a crucial element in EquInnoLab.'s ambition to become the Netherlands' first equestrian field lab.

With the help of digital motion analysis it becomes possible to analyze the horse's movements with objective and accurate data and to visualize impurities that cannot be observed with the naked eye. We strive for a system that enables objective analysis with video and small sensors, equipped with wireless data communication.

The ultimate goal is to combine different (future, possibly external) technologies. This makes it possible to realize a complete interface that displays various parameters during the training. We combine the technologies to create a tool that recognizes problems / deviations during training. By making technologies work together, there is more certainty that the diagnosis / conclusion is correct.

Specifically, the prototype will contain the following components:

  • Camera analysis system.
  • Rein tension sensor equipped with: Iphone Application (IOS), LED indication and GPS. Rein tension with motion to determine whether the rider or horse is pulling.
  • Stirrup: a stirrup pressure sensor.
  • Contained in a cloud application, data analysis system and provided with a dashboard that can be presented live on screen.
  • Realize data value in a Cloud. By developing algorithms and machine learning, giving direct feedback to the customer about performance and possible improvements.
